HOUSTON (September 20, 2011)-To raise global awareness of the Texas Medical Center and Houston as a global leader in medicine and research, several local organizations are traveling to Germany in November to attend Medica: World Forum for Medicine, the world's largest medical tradeshow.
The Texas Medical Center, Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau, Greater Houston Partnership, BioHouston and the Houston Technology Center are teaming up to have a collective presence in the U.S. Pavilion at the conference, which draws nearly 140,000 visitors from around the world. Medica participants represent all forms of the medical field: hospitals, private and group practices, clinics, rehabilitation centers, universities and public institutions and general medical services.
The Houston team hopes to achieve two main goals during this trip: to increase overall global awareness of Houston and the Texas Medical Center and increase international patient referrals to the Texas Medical Centers. While Houston is home to the largest concentration of medical professionals in the world and an undisputed leader in health care, few people around the world are aware of its standing. Although many are familiar with M.D. Anderson Cancer Center or Drs. Debakey and Cooley for their pioneering work in heart surgery, the vast majority of Texas Medical Center's assets are flying under the global radar.
This collaborative effort is the first step in a multi-faceted effort that will take place over the next few years to elevate Houston as a global leader in medicine.
